Detailed below are some of the restaurants we go to. There are cards for these and other restaurants in the house as well as recommendations in the visitors book.
La Terrasse in Duras has been our favourite restaurant around here for some time. Located by the car park opposite the Chateau. This restaurant has an interesting menu which is different from the normal french restaurants. They also have reasonably priced rooms above - this has been useful in the past for visitors who have not been able to exactly match flights with the changeover dates.
hostelerie des ducs
Another restaurant in Duras - part of the main hotel in the town. This has the beauty of being open every evening, and has come to our rescue on more than one occasion arriving late without having bought food en-route! The food is good quality with a choice of differently priced menus.
vins et flots
Located in Duras, this is a bar with a small restaurant which has been attached has refurbished in the last couple of years. Their menu du jour is a good alternative to the café de la paix in Duras.
Chai Pascal in St Émilion is not one of the touristy places around the church tower. It is a small bistro with a small but very good wine list. The plat du jour is always good - for instance chicken curry, or confit de canard.
This is a new find of ours located in the nearby village of Gensac. Simple menus with good food, and an interesting wine "list" - a bookcase, from which you choose your wine.
comptoir de gènes
This was a great find - in Gènes de Castillon, just north of Castillon This is both a wine shop and restaurant combined. Amongst the tables are stacks of wine boxes from all over Bordeaux. The food is very good, although the a la carte menu can be quite pricy. The set menu du jour for €14.50 fed us very well, coming with a very nice glass of wine!
